Abstract
Septic shock is still one of the most feared complications both in critically ill medical and surgical patients in the ICU: as a matter of fact, mortality still ranges between 30 and 60 %. In this chapter the use of pressors, in particular of noradrenalin and terlipressin, is reviewed: in case of suboptimal response to fluids and NE, an early use of low dose terlipressin has to be considered to widen the available therapeutic options. The use of hydrocortisone continuous infusion as combination therapy and of methylene blue in very difficult cases has also been addressed.
