Abstract

Leiomyomas are common benign pelvic tumors that can cause abnormal uterine bleeding, bulk-related symptoms, and effects on fertility and pregnancy, although most women are asymptomatic. Myomectomy is a surgical treatment option for women who desire uterine preservation. A laparoscopic approach provides the benefits of minimally invasive surgery while achieving outcomes similar to those of abdominal myomectomy. Appropriate patient selection, thorough patient counseling, careful preoperative preparation, and proper surgical technique are paramount to the safety and success of this procedure.
