Abstract
This paper considers the behavior of the coefficient of determination (r2) when two data sets are combined or pooled into one set. In particular it is of interest to see, for fixed subset values of r2, the extent to which the pooled r2 value can vary simply as a function of the subsets’ location. Several findings which appear general are discussed, and possible future research directions are suggested.
