Abstract

The term chronic rhinosinusitis represents a family of disease processes all characterized by persistent sinonasal inflammation. Many risk factors contribute to chronic rhinosinusitis, including allergy, asthma, and anatomic abnormalities. The pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis is specific to the type of disease perpetuating the inflammation and is often characterized by a unique cytokine profile. Treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis is specific to the disease process but often involves control of risk factors.
