Abstract
This chapter discusses the complications of the gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatic systems in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). GI complications are very common in the BMT patient. Complications include nausea, vomiting, mucositis, diarrhea, malabsorption, gastroparesis, and pain, among others. These complications can be due to regimen-related toxicities or graft-versus-host disease. Hepatic complications are also observed in HSCT patients, including sinusoidal obstruction syndrome. Early recognition and management of GI and hepatic complications result in improved outcome for BMT patients.
