Abstract
Harvey Cushing created the fields of modern neurosurgery, critical care anesthesia, and diagnostic radiology. He opened the cranial vault by developing techniques to control hemostasis. He described Cushing’s syndrome, Cushing’s disease, and Cushing’s reflex. He was recognized as not only the greatest surgeons of his time but also the greatest physician in the world.
