Abstract
A trend analysis of mail survey response rates on a sample of 880 studies dating from 1960-1995 indicated an overall downward linear trend in response rates of nearly one-half percentage point per year. Further analysis revealed that sample type and the use of procedures to induce response were related to overall rates.
