Abstract
The main objective of the Paper was the comparison of mechanical properties of spinal rods manufactured applying the conventional method and spinal rods manufactured applying the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) method. The analysis of the current situation of the spinal implant testing served as the basis for development of the methodology for spinal systems testing which was applied in thirteen static tensile tests, using 22 UHMWPE blocks, 44 pedicle screws and 22 spinal rods, out of which 16 were manufactured applying the “DMLS” method and 6 rods were manufactured applying the conventional method. The trial is focused on the vertebrae in the lumbar spine section, as this spine section is exposed to the highest static and dynamic load.
