Abstract
Esophagectomy is a complex surgical procedure. The esophageal cancer patient often presents with significant comorbidities in addition to new onset weight loss and malnutrition. Optimization for neoadjuvant therapy and subsequent esophagectomy requires careful consideration of patient comorbidities and nutritional status. This chapter discusses the medical evaluation of esophageal cancer surgery patients including nutritional optimization.
