Abstract

The assessment of ethics education events requires high-level awareness and application of educational principles and methods. Essentially assessment focuses on evidence-based endeavors to determine the extent to which students have internalized a unique individualized set of skills, specifically skills to address ethical dilemmas in their personal and professional lives. This entry focuses on the following aspects: definition of assessment, assessment approaches (summative assessment, formative assessment), quality principles of assessment (transparency, validity, reliability, sufficiency, fairness), assessment instruments and methods (text-based methods, oratory-oriented methods, arts-based methods), rating scales (quantitative scales, qualitative feedback), and assessors (educator-assessors, peer-assessors, self-assessors).
