The Dieckmann condensation is the intramolecular version of the Claisen condensation.

Dieckmann, W. Ber. 1894, 27, 102. Walter Dieckman (1869–1925), born in Hamburg, Germany, studied with E. Bamberger at Munich. After serving as an assistant to von Baeyer in his private laboratory, he became a professor at Munich. At age 56, he died while working in his chemical laboratory at the Barvarian Academy of Science.
