Abstract
The worldwide change from open-pit operations to underground mining and the increasing extraction depth of orebodies requires a rapid development which especially attaches importance to cost and safety. Hence the mechanical excavation is moving into the focus. New machines are requested by the mining companies, specially designed for fast and efficient mine development in underground hard-rock operations. These so called mining machines might offer several benefits compared to currently existing rock-cutting machines such as tunnel boring machines and road headers.
