Abstract

Electro polymerized poly(acriflavine) modified gold (Au) electrode has been prepared and used for the electrochemical detection of dopamine (DA) and catechol (CA) without the interference of ascorbic acid (AA). The experimental results demonstrates that, PAF/Au electrode exhibited favorable electron transfer kinetics and electro catalytic activity towards the oxidation of Dopamine and Ascorbic acid in neutral (pH 7.0) and acidic (pH 5.0) conditions. PAF/Au was found be a good mediator for electrochemical oxidation of Ascorbic Acid, Dopamine and Catechol in pH 7.0 and pH 5.0 PBS buffer solutions. In the Differential Pulse Voltammetry study, PAF/Au electrode offers large peak separation, 120mV between AA and DA at pH 7.0 owing to the introduction of positively charged electrostatic barrier generated by PAF film. Similarly, a large peak separation, 380mV between AA and CA was recorded in this experimental study with a RSD of 6.5%.
