Abstract

In this chapter, we describe the potential benefits of combining music, neurofeedback, and electroencephalography-based emotion detection for improving elderly people’s mental health. We describe a novel music neurofeedback approach, which allows patients to manipulate expressive parameters while listening to music pieces by using their emotional state decoded from their brain activity. We show how musical neurofeedback may be applied to alleviate depression in elderly people. We conclude by describing a music-based intervention protocol for depression treatment.
