Abstract

In This paper we present a miniaturized dual band antenna suitable for WLAN applications, 2.45 and 5.8 GHz. The miniaturization and the upper frequency were obtained by two-unit cells metamaterial which were etched on the ground plane of a conventional patch antenna initially resonating at 3.38 GHz. The simulation of the antenna was done with CST solver. Epoxy FR-4, with permittivity 4.4, loss tangent of 0.025 and thickness of 1.6 mm, is chosen as a substrate and the copper annulled is used as material for the ground and the patch of the antenna. This proposed antenna has a gain 1.39 dB at 2.45 GHz and 2.1 dB at 5.8 GHz, the bandwidths are 76.4 MHz for the inferior band and 160 MHz for the superior band.
