Abstract

Software development companies are currently facing numerous challenges due to rapid technological change, high staff turnover, and brain drain. This means that the key knowledge of the companies is lost and there are difficulties in carrying out the medium and long-term planned projects with the customers, which over time affects the income, productivity, and continuity of these companies. In this scenario, knowledge management, understood as a process that allows the company to identify, collect, store, evaluate, and share valuable information, becomes a critical success factor, as it allows the creation of value through knowledge, thus mitigating the impact of these challenges. This article aims to systematically review the literature to identify what strategies, technologies, and knowledge management models are being used by software development companies to obtain the benefits and capabilities needed to be more solid and competitive in the marketplace. The results of this work show that the most commonly used strategies are collaborative networks, knowledge repositories, training, organizational agility, and peer work. Similarly, it was found that the most commonly used technologies are collaborative tools, information systems, and business intelligence and knowledge management applications. This is embedded in models that promote agility and collaborative working. In addition, according to the articles, increasing productivity, shortening the learning curve for new employees, and developing innovation, absorption, and creativity capabilities were cited as benefits that are fundamental to effective knowledge management. Similarly, challenges for investigation and challenges that should be adopted in future research were found.
