World Politics in the Age of Uncertainty

Abstract

The paper presents the results of research on anxiety in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The analysis aims to identify changes in the perception of the respondents’ socio-economic situation. An additional goal was to identify changes in the level of anxiety caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The research is based on a series of surveys of residents of Poland regarding anxiety about the negative impact of the pandemic on professional life and the ability to meet basic needs. The data was collected using the computer-assisted Internet interview method (CAWI). In particular, the question of how the level of subjective feeling of insecurity and the long-term impact of the pandemic on everyday life in the period analysed was answered. The attitudes and behaviours of the population were examined and activities preventing the accumulation and changes in the perception of threats were identified. The results of the research express the societal security of households in the face of threats and uncertainties and the process of entering the “new normal” due to changes caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Summary: Exclusions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic are an incredibly important challenge not only for policymakers and society as a whole but also in particular for scientists.
