Abstract
With the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic, social isolation became a necessary strategy to cope with contagion, although it hindered human interactions and activities in general. This chapter presents different types of social skills for the promotion of socially competent behaviors in social interaction. The social skills covered are: Civility, Communication, Assertiveness, Empathy, Interpersonal Problem Solving, Self-Control, Emotional Expressiveness and Labor. In addition to a conceptual exposition of the skills, practical guidelines for their exercise are also presented. It is hoped that the promotion of these skills can contribute to social relations in the pandemic and post-pandemic contexts.
