Abstract
The new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, put all health systems around the world to the test. Crisis situations such as this one generates fear, anxiety, depression, and stress, among other responses. In Cuba, many medical students lent their support to the pandemic declared by the WHO and as a risk group it was essential to know their psychological situation in order to be able to respond to their needs. A pilot study was conducted with 43 students to evaluate their psychological state, which showed that approximately 86% manifested some level of stress during this period of community work. Measures for emotional support are suggested as a form of psychological intervention in the face of the effects of this and other health disaster situations.
