Abstract

Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is a cardiac arrhythmia associated with significant morbidity and mortality, accounting for more than 300,000 sudden cardiac deaths (SCD) in the United States per year. This arrhythmia originates from the ventricle and is fast, usually causing hemodynamic compromise. In the adult population, it is frequently due to the consequences of atherosclerotic heart disease which causes myocardial scarring and potential heart failure. Treatment must be undertaken expeditiously to avoid syncope and death. This chapter will outline causes, testing, and treatment of this dangerous arrhythmia.
