Abstract
Among the three of us editors, we have given more than a century of collective work toward understanding and addressing elder abuse. All of us are researchers and educators. However, we also have been active in developing policy and practice for better recognizing, preventing, and responding to the problem. That work has been inspired, indeed driven, by the faces of elder abuse that we have known personally as research subjects, clients or patients, and even family members and friends. Every face we have encountered has been unique, offering its own particular version of what it means to be victimized as an older adult by those known and trusted or those who are neither but still cause harm out of greed or other motivation.
