Abstract

Many children with isolated, structural clubfoot deformity are successfully corrected using the Ponseti method, but a substantial percentage will experience a relapse of deformity. Most of the literature on the Ponseti method details the methods of initial correction and bracing and does not focus on management of relapses. Relapse treatment involves an initial assessment to look for undiagnosed neurologic or developmental problems, followed by a return to Ponseti principles of manipulation and casting. The treatment options needed to obtain and maintain deformity correction at various ages are detailed in this chapter.
