Abstract
Reflecting on the book as a whole, we (the editors) share our parting thoughts. We review the shifting grounds of relationships in family medicine at a time when all human interactions of caring in medicine are being converted into transactions to be counted, timed, and billed for. We grieve the ongoing challenges to maintaining the quality and expanse of relationships shared by the authors of the essays. We peer into the future with both trepidation and hope, the latter arising from the younger generations and the increasing influence of women in family medicine.
