Malignancies of the Nasal Vestibule

Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of nasal vestibule (NV) is a relatively uncommon malignancy of the midface region. Because of its rarity and inconsistencies in classification and staging (see Chaps. 4 and 5), there is no standard treatment in literature.

Radiotherapy and surgery are possible options, but there is no universal agreement about indications.

Surgery is often selected in case of small lesions without necessity of reconstruction, or in case of recurrence (salvage surgery), but aesthetic and functional results of the reconstructive phase are generally unsatisfactory.

Radiotherapy can be performed by external beam or brachytherapy.

The modality for neck treatment in the primary setting usually follows the modality chosen for T.
