Abstract

Penile cancer is a rare urological malignancy. This chapter discusses the epidemiology and aetiology of penile cancer. Significant international and inter-regional variation exists in the incidence of the disease with Brazil reporting the highest incidence; 2.8–6.8 per 100,000 men. The incidence of penile cancer has gradually been increasing over time with the majority of cases presenting in older men. Squamous cell carcinoma is the dominant histological subtype in 95% of penile cancers. We discuss in detail the risk factors which include phimosis, smoking and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection.
