Abstract

A state-of-the-art is given about the fuel cell technology with focus on the suitable compressors used in the air circuit. Innovative miniaturized turbo-compressors are under development according to recent literature, aiming at reducing the size and weight of such components and increasing their efficiency. Aerodynamic bearings represent the best solution to support these compressors at very high speeds due to their compactness, no need of an external lubrication system, low friction and low heat generation. An overview is given about these bearings.
