Distribution of Facilities to Improve the Raw Material Storage System

Abstract

The problem arises from the need to have a distribution of facilities that provides adequate spaces, properly distributed areas and a storage system according to the requirements of a company, since currently, the distribution of facilities is not adequate. For the development of the research, the methodology of logistics diagnosis of warehouses and distribution centers (IPISI) was used to identify the current conditions of the warehouse, obtaining as a result deficiencies in the quality of the floor, non-existence of loading-unloading docks, limitations in maneuvering spaces, inadequate distance between aisles and lack of performance indicators, triggering problems in the processes of reception, storage and dispatch of raw materials. To complement the study, a categorization was made by product family according to the level of consumption and an analysis based on the criticality of the stored raw materials, identifying the most critical materials through the use of tools such as ABC, BOM and criticality matrix. On the other hand, the PRISMA methodology (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) was used to obtain application criteria and distribution techniques that allowed the design of the new distribution of the warehouse facilities with which a reduction of about 3,000 m is expected and 66% in material handling costs, reducing internal movements and transports through the application of a heuristic location allocation method.
