Abstract
Granulomatous mastitis is more common in premenopausal women. Clinically, a palpable mass can be felt. Histologically, granulomas and/or necrosis is seen. The granulomas may be discrete/non-coalescing or coalescing. Multinucleated giant cells may/may not be present.
Granulomatous mastitis can be divided into two categories as idiopathic granulomatous mastitis and granulomatous mastitis secondary to a variety of conditions such as infective causes (tuberculosis and fungi), sarcoidosis, Wegener’s granulomatosis, complication of diabetes (diabetic mastopathy), silicone injection (silicone-induced granulomatous mastitis), or other foreign-body-type reactions.
