Abstract
The importance of the bioeconomy in the global context has become increasingly evident and relevant in recent years. Due to Brazil’s abundant environmental resource endowments in the form of forests and biodiversity, this concept has gained evermore importance. This chapter contextualizes the bioeconomy in Brazil, showing its significance, the state of its current development, and the future challenges for the country to realize its natural potential. Special attention is dedicated to the bioeconomy in the Amazon, as this is the region with the greatest potential, and where the greatest challenges persist.
