Abstract
War exposure has extensive detrimental effects on the mental health and psychological well-being of children and adolescents. Many factors moderate and mediate the complex relationship between the war trauma itself and subsequent psychiatric morbidity, including resilience. Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety are the most common disorders after traumatic events. The clinical presentation of distress in children depends on their development level and must be understood from the standpoint of the child’s social, emotional, and cognitive development. Cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy are validated therapeutic approaches for children and adolescents who suffer from trauma-related symptoms.
