Abstract

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a psychiatric illness that affects the quality of life of those who suffer from it. It is described as the set of symptoms guided by anxiety that occurs after a traumatic event. Various events can predispose to the existence of this pathology, such as a hospital admission and the medical procedures that someone undergoes, such as noninvasive ventilation.

In the next chapter, we will address the epidemiology, etiology, diagnostic and therapeutic approach of post-traumatic stress disorder, particularly when it occurs due to the use of noninvasive ventilation and with special attention to its management in an intensive care unit context.
