Functional Limb Salvage

Abstract

The incidence of chronic lower extremity (LE) wounds continues to grow in line with the comorbid, aging population. Advancements in surgical techniques and treatment modalities have helped to improve limb salvage rates and reduce the rates of amputation, especially in patients with diabetes mellitus and peripheral arterial disease. Innovation and research in the application of treatments for limb salvage is critical. This chapter reviews the landmark publications and innovations from the multidisciplinary Georgetown Diabetic Limb Salvage team.
