Abstract

Our research focuses on the meaning of social media platforms and social messengers for foreign language learning, on the example of English. The urgency of the issues of education on the whole and the theory and practice of language learning, including related to the current trends of global changes, increasing the role of the educational sphere, applying new methods of teaching and modern technologies. This is a decisive international trends in its development, which comes down to the processes of transfer of knowledge, on which the educational system relies, accordance with the realities of our days. This kind of reflection allowed us to make a hypothesis that social media platforms are a powerful resource for language learning for both personal and professional purposes. Which gives a strong motivation, active students participation and engagement in educational process, involving both teachers and students into multilingual technology environment. The study consists of two parts. The first part is a systematic review of the scientific literature focused on social media platforms as an integral part in English learning among students. The second part of the study contains a conclusion drawn based on an analysis of social media platforms users’ preferences for foreign language learning. Social media platforms are presented in the article as an additional resource for foreign language learning for general and professional purposes, motivating teachers and students take actively participate and engage in a multilingual technology environment.
