Abstract
There has been a growth in software to support software engineering mathematics, and we discuss a selection of essential supporting software such as Microsoft Excel, Python, Maple, Mathematica, MATLAB, Minitab, and R. The key features of each software tool are discussed as well as links to more detailed information on the software package. The goal is to provide sufficient information to the readers to allow them to make a judgement on the most appropriate software to suit their specific needs.

Notes
- 1.
The CP/M operating system was developed by Gary Kildall at Digital Research, and Kildall did a lot of early work on operating systems for microprocessors. The award of the operating system for the original IBM PC to Microsoft was highly controversial, as the operating system that Microsoft provided to IBM was essentially Kildall’s CP/M.
