Abstract

Hyperthermia after surgery is sometimes encountered because of the types of surgeries and the viruses our patients may have been exposed to at home or at school. During our preoperative history and evaluation, we can often diagnose malignant hyperthermia (MH)-susceptible patients and prepare for a nontriggering anesthetic plan. But there are times when we must be prepared to diagnose and treat an actual case of malignant hyperthermia with dantrolene and supportive care. This chapter reviews postoperative fever because of MH in a child.
