Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic and severe issues of the twenty-first century such as food and climate crises have affected state-market interaction. Precautions against the spread of the virus such as social distancing, quarantine, and closures comprise direct intervention in social life and economic process such as production, consumption, and trade. This phenomenon makes us consider the future of the global economic order. How will capitalism, which received a blow from the global financial crisis of 2007–2008, be affected by the current pandemic crisis? Based on this research question, we first examine the pandemic’s economic and social policy effects. Then, we compile different points of view about the future of capitalism. Some views advocate that capitalism will get over this issue by becoming more assertive, while others state that capitalism will never be like before and some structural changes will occur in terms of state intervention in the economic life.
