Abstract

A brief review of works on the classical computational model of the contact interaction of rough surfaces is given. The assumptions adopted for the model are described in the problem statement. The height distribution of the rough surface protrusions is considered continuous and follows a power law. A single contact of two roughnesses represented as spherical segments with mutual overlap is described. The contact conditions between the roughnesses are outlined. Calculations for the mathematical expectation of the elementary contact area and the mathematical expectation of the deformed material volume are derived. The problem of contact interaction between two rough surfaces in statics is considered. The calculation of the actual contact area has been clarified. The results of the work can be used in the development of computational models of tribocouple wear and the development of software tools for modeling the contact interaction of rough surfaces.
