Zusammenfassung
Dieses Kapitel befasst sich mit der öffentlichen Meinung zur Migration und ihrer Berichterstattung in den Medien. Während der „europäischen Flüchtlingskrise“ wurde die Migration politisiert, und die Medienberichterstattung darüber variierte in den einzelnen europäischen Ländern mit ihrer jeweiligen geopolitischen Situation und ihrer Geschichte der Aufnahme von Migranten bzw. Flüchtlingen. Die Öffentlichkeit überschätzt oft die Zahl der Migranten und richtet ihre Meinung danach aus, was sie sich unter der vorherrschenden Art der Migration vorstellt. Die Darstellung von Migranten in den Medien, entweder als Last oder als Ressource, kann die öffentliche Meinung prägen. Der lokale Kontext ist wichtig, da die Zahl der in den einzelnen Regionen und Städten lebenden Migranten variiert. Die Bereitstellung korrekter statistischer Informationen, die Betonung der Vielfalt aktueller Migrationsmuster und die Teilnahme an öffentlichen Diskussionen sind Möglichkeiten zur Beeinflussung von Haltungen auf lokaler Ebene.
