Abstract

To adequately treat hernias of the abdominal wall, it is crucial to understand both the native and pathologic anatomy. Understanding the anatomy and the location of the hernia clearly assists in determining the best operative approach and chance of a successful repair. This chapter will focus on understanding the three-dimensional anatomy of abdominal wall hernias using various imaging modalities including ultrasound, computer tomography (CT), and MRI. We will specifically focus on groin (femoral and inguinal), obturator, ventral, umbilical, incisional, epigastric, and Spigelian hernias.
