Abstract
Arthritis in the glenohumeral joint, although not as frequent as in other joints, can be an important cause of pain and disability. It can be caused by multiple conditions and manifests itself with progressive pain and stiffness. Involvement starts at the synovial membrane and then extends to the articular cartilage. Diagnostic workup must start with a three-view plain X-ray set and can be complemented with other imaging and laboratory studies as needed. Initial management of mild-to-moderate cases includes pain medication and physical therapy; in advanced or refractory cases, glenohumeral joint replacement brings pain relief and helps with the function for daily activities.
