Abstract

We here report the case of a 26-year-old pregnant woman with a left pleural effusion of infectious origin. A thoracentesis was performed. The tests performed on the pleural fluid, in particular the microbiological ones, were all negative. The differential cell count of the pleural fluid showed a lymphocytosis (61%), confirmed in a second thoracentesis (84%). The microbiological examinations performed with the second thoracentesis were also completely negative. For this reason, we decided to perform a medical thoracoscopy, by which it was possible to reach the definitive diagnosis of tuberculous pleurisy.
