Abstract
Decades of research have examined the role families and schools have in promoting children’s healthy development. Despite an expansive research base, there are many necessary research directions to address limitations in extant literature and understand how to optimize family–school collaboration to support children’s mental health. The purpose of this chapter is to review features of family–school research and advance research topics and strategies to improve family–school collaboration within school mental health. Research-informed family–school practices are also highlighted to depict advances in family–school research and how specific research directions may improve uptake and implementation. Implications for policy and practice are also discussed.
We have no known conflicts of interest to disclose. The research reported here was supported by the Institute of Education Sciences, US Department of Education, through Grant R324B160026 to the University of Wisconsin.
