Abstract

In today’s world Medical Record Systems (MRS) became a critical parameter in making decisions, also an equivalent need for managing errors by automated data practicing for quality assurance. There is no doubt that the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is now a mature technology over the past couple of years and is also implemented in many developed countries. But still, the success of PACS is of major concern for the healthcare industry, most importantly in developing countries like Pakistan. For this reason, it is the primary purpose of our research that we introduce considerations for the design and its solutions related to the practical implementation and evaluation of PACS within the department of radiology (DoR) environment in Pakistan. Our research also proposed the method for smooth transformation of the existing hospital environment to a digital Medical Record System (MRS) and the integration of PACS within the hospital modalities using HL7 & DICOM medical standards, which can also later be connected to other healthcare organizations.
