Abstract

One of the most common findings during routine gynecologic exams are ovarian cysts. The cell lining of the cyst wall is the distinguishing characteristic for the four most common types of cysts: dermoid, endometrioma, functional, and physiologic/simple cysts. In this chapter, we review the definition, diagnosis, and management of ovarian cysts. Each clinical scenario may lead to a unique treatment path when one considers the patient’s priority for pain relief, hormonal status, and desire for future fertility.
