Abstract
This chapter discusses concepts or theories used by supervisors in professional supervision. The terms, concepts, or theories were used in a loose sense to give flexibility to supervisors to respond. The analysis of supervisors’ responses suggested the use of 24 conceptual or theoretical frameworks in supervision. Some concepts or theories discussed in the chapter are broad and educational, such as adult learning, Kolb’s cycle, and systems theory. In contrast, others are more therapeutic or clinical, such as narrative therapy, family therapy, and the psychodynamic lens. Here, the purpose is not to elaborate on these concepts and theories but to develop an understanding of what theories supervisors use to supervise supervisees. The analysis shows that supervisors use a range of supervision models presented in Chap. 4 and beyond, and those frameworks are closely connected to social work practice.
