Incorporating Mindfulness Practice for Better Performance in Work and Daily Life

Brain, Decision Making and Mental Health

Part of the book series: Integrated Science ((IS,volume 12))

Summary

Mindfulness practices have reached the mainstream in the last decades. From senior executives of big companies to athletes, actors and actresses and mainstream personalities have praised its virtues. Like oil, mindfulness has been incorporated to a greater or lesser extent in almost every work area and daily life. Mindfulness-based interventions have been developed for various disorders and improve coping with everyday discomfort. This chapter presents an overview of mindfulness, how to learn it, its main effects, and how its practices can improve performance in different aspects of work and daily life. However, it should be clarified that practicing mindfulness meditation is not, and should not be in any way, a tool to cushion the reality of social injustices in the world around us. In any case, only with a strong commitment to incorporate meditation practices as one of our self-care daily activities will we improve our relationships with ourselves, our beloved ones, colleagues, and our environment healthily.

When we focus our attention in the here and now and live simply, we have more time to do the things we think are important.
