Abstract

Cicatricial alopecia is all encompassing term for any hair disorder that destroys the hair follicles and results in scarring. There are numerous disorders that can lead to cicatricial alopecia that destroy the hair follicle or primarily affect the dermis, resulting in secondary follicle damage. Although cicatricial alopecia is nonreversible, proper diagnosis by pathological examination is necessary in order to provide an adequate treatment that may limit the progression of the disease. Current treatment options for primary cicatricial alopecia are limited as the pathogenesis of the disease is largely unknown.
