Abstract
This chapter examines global research findings dealing with discriminations based on race, ethnicity, and gender in education and societies. The synthesis of research-informed evidence suggests that race, ethnicity and gender discriminations, and the self-fulfilling prophecy (SFP) affect students’ self-concept, self-esteem, self-efficacy, their engagement and motivation to learn, and their academic achievement. The chapter analyses and critiques recent research findings dealing with major forms of racial, ethnic and gender discrimination in schools, discriminatory practices, their impact on learners, and implications for the student’s social identity, human rights and social justice.
