Abstract
This chapter honors the memory of Scott Lilienfeld by considering two directions that might represent the future of cognitive therapy: attention to nuances of language in shaping thought and cognitive distortions and other thinking biases and fallacies committed by clinicians. Indeed, Scott was a shrewd critical thinker who carefully considered, and taught others about, the many ways clinicians might commit errors in their clinical work and in deriving conclusions about treatment benefits. We hope this chapter not only captures Scott’s zeal for debate and critical thinking, but also impels further work that is inspired by the legacy he left behind.
