Abstract
BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) are major viral pathogens that portend adverse allograft/recipient outcomes. Viral co-infection is synergistic, with BKPyV and CMV stimulating viral cell entry, replication, and immune modulation leading to allograft injury via viral infection and/rejection. Here we describe a case of BK polyomavirus and cytomegalovirus co-infection in a kidney transplant recipient to enhance understanding of and guide management of this unique post-transplant complication.
